Hello Parents and Students,
September saw a growing fellowship among the CGYG teens. It's great to see the new upperclassmen stepping up so early in the school year! Our band, Set Apart, now has their own worship nook in the youth room! Their energy and talent makes every Wednesday night more worshipful. Also, we'd like to welcome Faith Manning as our latest youth leader in charge of music.
We are entering the last phase of LFIBs (Large Format Inductive Bible Study) this month where the teens will do their own observations, interpretations, and come back from small groups with a short application from the evening's passage as we continue through Galatians.
Sunday Mornings the Aspens (7-9th grades) are learning about the early church as they go through Acts, and the Oaks (10-12) are learning about spiritual gifts and fruits of the spirit at the same time Jeff is preaching about such things, so it's been really cool to see the teens respond as they hear and see the same message and the same conclusions drawn from two different pastors.
Finally we are entering into the holiday season and have a lot of special events planned, but we will not be having Final Fridays in November or December.
Coming Activities:
October 31: Annual Costume party 7:00-9:30: The teens love it! We'll have prizes for best costume, most original, and best team and then play a little game called . . . Escape!
December 17: Annual CGYG Christmas Party. If you are interested in decorating the room for the party, please let us know.
December 20: Christmas movie marathon
January 23-25: ReBoot retreat at Skycroft. Registration will go live in December, but if you want to get an early sense for the retreat, details are here. https://skycroft.org/reboot/
Resource Corner:
Photo Album: New Band space, laser tag, and general hijinks, check out what the teens were up to last month in our September photo album!
The tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk had a lot of teens asking questions. Pastor Trip shared this video of pastor Mike Winger with us that I thought was worth passing on. I hope this helps if you are having difficult discussions with your teens. Watch the video here
And as always, please continue to keep our youth in your prayers. For questions or assistance, feel free to reach out:Stephen: ssimons75@gmail.com | 703-217-2675Tiffany: tif.simons04@gmail.com | 703-217-9451
